sola frutas y vegetales

Today begins the three (or four, possibly) day cleanse. Don't worry, its not one of those crazy cayenne-pepper-and-lemon-juice deals. I'm only eating raw fruits and vegetables in an attempt to flush out toxins and other yucky things from my system.
This also isn't some sort of bizarre crash diet. Part of this is definitely just to see if I can do it...I'm very susceptible to challenges. Most of the stupid things I have done were the result of a dare. But this is like a personal challenge--can I only eat raw broccoli for four days? We'll see.
So, here it goes. Wish me luck!
Ahh. I'm already craving bread.

{guacamole}

Let me just preface this: I have no shame in saying something I make is good. Because (especially with something like this) it's alllll in the ingredients. So when people say its scrumptious, I agree and grab another chip-ful. This guacamole is wonderful.

 {ingredients}
     3 Haas avocados
2 tomatoes
1 half of an onion
1 garlic clove
and a little bit of salt and lime
mix it all together and enjoy

Pancakeapalooza

{From top left: chocolate with chocolate chip, banana nut, cinnamon walnut,
blueberry, blueberry-oatmeal-wheatgerm-nut, and banana}

Normally, I don't like making things from mixes unless I'm in a hurry. However, I had a revelation: all that it takes to make 'special' pancakes is whatever the ingredient is. Some pancake mix, some milk, couple eggs, and {what have you}. It's like pancake improv.
Naturally, I assumed the kiddos I nanny for would love homemade pancakes. My offer was met with blank stares and "Uh....we just want the frozen ones."
Well, I will enjoy delicious pancakes. And so will my family.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

I was so worked up over the whole eBay debacle that I decided the only thing in the entire world that would make it better was chocolate covered strawberries. Turns out, they're actually quite simple to make. Take fresh strawberries:
wash them and dry them completely. Then heat up 6 oz (about a cup) of dark chocolate, or semi-sweet chocolate chips, by putting it in a ceramic dish in a hot pot of water on the stove. Stir it until it is smooth (I added a little milk). Then dip each strawberry into the chocolatey goodness and lay out onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Let cool (or speed up the whole cooling process by putting it into the fridge) and you get this!:

Instant pick me up. Enjoy!

the granola that makes breakfast worth getting up for

And I’m making homemade granola! I love being back home with my spacious, familiar kitchen. Dorm kitchens are maybe my least favorite part of college. Anyway, I found this recipe on this adorable cooking/life blog my friend sent me and I decided to try it out.
The final product:

I changed the recipe a little, adding some cinnamon and milk and not pulling in flax seed on account of not knowing what is was. Also, here’s the link:inthelittleredhouse.blogspot.com
